Sending out the link love!

Hi All! Today’s post is going to be a little short as we are winding up summer here fast and getting ready for school! So let’s get right to a few things that caught my eye in the foodie love sphere this week!

You Can Grow Your Own On Five Feet of Soil!

The Food Matters website had a great article about what you can grow in a five food square. This is great for urban gardeners but also for those who for some reason fear the commitment of a big time veggie garden. Taking baby steps like this gives you confidence to take more and connecting with the soil, no matter where you are, and your food is so empowering. I would also recommend that you see the movie Food Matters because it really is a great starting off point to show you what is happening in the food scene, not to scare you but to show you a direction in which to go.

Some Kids DO Get It!

Kelly the Kitchen Kop is running an interview with a teenaged health freak by her own admission, discussing her motivation to get healthy and how that brought her health and exploration of food to a whole new level. I find this so exciting because most families feel that their kids are not even thinking about the food they eat and only succumbing to peer pressure. I know, when I involve my kids in cooking and food choices they are very receptive, and I think this article shows that it is important to them.

If You Want to Explore the World of Real Food This is Where to Start

Kelly the Kitchen Kop is also running a great Real Food for Rookies Class which explores the world of food according to the Weston Price and Nourishing Traditions nutritional guidelines. I speak about real food a lot because I do believe in many of their ideas about food and incorporate quite a few of their traditions into my daily life. If you want to know more, this class is for you!

A Great Food Information Ally on The Web

After Girlichef was mentioned on the Food News Journal, I got their RSS feed. I wanted to get back to you all to highly recommend them as a daily go to for food news and what is happening in the foodie blogosphere. The next article listed came from their daily email update. I wont share anymore, go check them out, but I thought this one was right up our ally!

Food Photography Secrets for the Foodie Bloggers out There!

For all you foodie bloggers out there who want more tips on food photography, this article in the Charlotte Observer by Kathleen Purvis shares the secrets of a top food stylist. Yes, white plates are IN thank Goodness because that’s what I use! It is a very interesting read about the evolution of the food photograph.

Happy 107th Birthday Grandpa! Now Enjoy that Big Mac!

You all might not like this one…but I do because it shows that happiness and having something to look forward to and feeling the joy of something that might not be all that good for you can still help you get to 107 years old and spry! Sure, genetics have a lot to do with it but so does peace around food. We all know someone who is happy and healthy and independant and old and eats whatever they want. Maybe their way of life should be a lesson for us all to just chill out!

Slightly Indulgent Tuesday’s Celebrates It’s One Year Anniversary!

Amy of Simply Sugar and Gluten Free is celebrating One year of an awesome GF and SF blog carnival called Slightly Indulgent Tuesdays. PLEASE visit her blog this coming Tuesday to link up a recipe or just wish her well in her efforts. Amy taught me a lot about food and looking at a “restriction” with such love that almost anything is possible with food. Her recipes would tempt ANYONE’s tummy and I thank her for her support and foodie love! You go girl! Congrats!

Two for Tuesday Recipe Blog Hop Highlights and a Few Changes Coming Down the Road

If you haven’t visited the Two for Tuesday Recipe Blog Hop, you certainly are missing something because the Hop is happening! Tons of great recipes that focus on real food and wholesome ingredients, but the creativity is astounding and even my eclectic culinary boundaries are being stretched by these awesome food lovers! In the near future there will be some changes to the blog hop to better reflect our group beliefs around food. We all connected over the concept of “real food” but we all find that that term does not adequately define who we are, which is a group of passionate, loving, creative, earth friendly people who enjoy the miracle of food and believe strongly in the soul nourishing power of food and in the health benefits of the LOVE put into cooking. We will be exploring that more fully with you all and inviting you to join us in our journey to finding peace with food and immersing yourself fully in the JOY of it!

For now, it stays Two for Tuesday and here are a few sparks that stood out for me from among the almost 100 stars!

Giz of Equal Opportunity Kitchen speaks of her childhood memories of polish specialities and creates some amazing looking blueberry buns that I am so making!  To me, food and memory go hand in hand and revisiting those sweet remembrances along with the actual food is like seeing heaven!

Catherine of Living the Gourmet made a spaghetti dish that was sweet and tangy and one of the food bloggers who stretched my culinary boundaries even further this week. Truth is, I WANT to, I have to know how this tastes! That is the sign of a good recipe and a sharing of the foodie curiosity and joy that makes cooking so interesting and fulfilling!

Sue of Couscous and Consciousness  is simply a “vegetable whisperer” and I adore the way her brain works and the way she truly listens to her body and her food! This recipe for shredded carrot salad might seem simple to you, but the process involved in choosing to make it is truly amazing.

Wow, That wasn’t as short as I thought it would be! Thanks for joining me in the middle of the road and I hope you have a wonderful weekend! Remember, my Giveaway ends on monday night and the winner will be announced on the Blog Hop on Tuesday so enter and then check back to see if you won. Link up a recipe while you are at it and share your foodie love!
