In the Kitchen: Real Food Basics by Kate Tietje

Win a Copy of this Wonderful new Real Food Cookbook!

This giveaway is now closed. Congratulations to Stephanie, comment number 27, selected by random.org. You are the winner!

Kate of Modern Alternative Mama started out like most of us when it came to the food she ate. She wanted to improve the health and well being of her family due to her child’s food issues staring her right in the face.  Through a lot of personal research she realized she could make a big difference in their health through the foods they ate and thus they began following a more real foods diet.

Kate was driven to document their journey, sharing what she had learned along with the nutrient dense foods recipes she has created, because so many of her friends and family and readers had so many questions about what they ate and where to start on their own personal journey to health.

Kate writes in the introduction to her new book In the Kitchen: Real Food Basics:

We started to reach out to people around us as well.  To date, we have friends and family who have lost weight, gotten rid of allergies, had improved thyroid function, improved PCOS, gotten rid of gluten and dairy intolerances and so much more.  We have story after story of people whose lives were changed by this diet.

It’s not a rigid diet.  It’s not a special protocol that expressly forbids any foods and reveres others.  Every person’s approach will look a little bit different.  It’s simply a different way of thinking about food and our relationship with it.  And it makes all the difference.

This book contains 25 “official” recipes, plus a handful of  “procedures, like:

  • How to make butter
  • How to make stock
  • How to make kombucha
  • How to make yogurt
  • How to sprout grains

It also contains plenty of information on why you should change your diet, and what you should be eating.  The best part, though, is that the recipes are extremely family-friendly.  Even the most reluctant real-food converts will want to try foods like fried chicken, Mexican chicken soup, sausage gravy, pizza, and fries. They’re recognizable, they’re delicious, and they’re made with real food!

I feel extremely blessed that Kate asked me to work on the editing of this book and I really enjoyed doing so. She writes with a very down to earth candor and shares their personal journey with warmth and openness. Her recipes are simple, easy to follow and well balanced. She gets to the heart of the real food issues without overloading the novice with too much extraneous research. She shares the most important first steps for anyone wanting to explore a more traditional real foods diet. I would recommend this book to anyone wishing to gain a better understanding of real food and how to apply that understanding to your family’s meal planning. She offers a wide range of recipes which will certainly give folks inspiration in the kitchen. The cost of the book is also very reasonable at $6.95, so it is a very wise investment for a huge real food return!
