ooooooooooooooo

Well, I have some good news and I have some bad news! I always like the bad news first so that the good news seems so much better. This past weekend while I was away in Boston doing our final check on colleges, my tired husband came home from work with a frozen pizza. He put it into the oven and sat down on the couch to watch some of the college basketball finals and promptly fell asleep. He didn’t wake up until the pizza was a singed ash and my 1970′s wall oven was fried. Thank goodness he is ok and he didn’t start a real fire! The good news is that I got a brand new double oven today and they just finished installing it so I can’t wait to be baking and cooking as soon as possible! My daughter also selected her college for next year and so I wont be as crazy busy for a little while and that is a good thing!  So sit down and relax and share these wonderful foodie links from around the blogosphere this Friday!

It’s official! National food writer says breakfast for dinner is elegant!

I am not the only one who thinks scrambled eggs for dinner make an elegant meal! I found this article by Russ Parsons of the LA Times in the Chicago Tribune Food and Drink Newsletter this week and it gives more credence to my belief that there is nothing better than a plate of eggs for dinner! I am certainly going to try Russ’ tricks for perfect scrambled eggs this weekend for a midnight snack!

More funning about local food from the Onion!

I love the Onion. Yes. I love onions, but I mean I love the satirical news outlet called the Onion. This week the Onion dishes on eating locally and hilarious ways you can get more local food into your diet. Since I am a real person trying to eat locally and I have no issues what so ever with making fun of myself, I thought I would share the laughs, which I found in the Food News Journal, with all of you other local eating lovers! Some of the silliness does bring a bit of insight into the extremes people will go to eat locally!

Instead of telling moms to breastfeed let’s just create a cow that produces human milk!

I absolutely cannot believe this Alert of the Week from the Organic Consumers Association about genetically modified cows being created at a University in China that will produce human like milk. I guess I should not be surprised at the lengths to which scientists will meddle with the natural course of things. I think my biggest question is why go to all this trouble when human females have the capacity to produce their own highly nutritious breast milk for free! Obviously there is a small percentage of the population that has lactation problems, but with nutritional support and guidance almost all women can breast feed if they choose to do so and mutating cows to produce human like milk is so freaky to me it seems like a nightmare!

How to fix teen “Hollow Leg” Syndrome on a budget!

Melissa of the Dyno-mom blog is a new discovery for me, but she has an information packed blog all about raising ten kids healthfully and frugally and with much faith and humor! This article all about feeding teens who can’t seem to get enough to eat, in a healthy and frugal way caught my eye because so much of it is a no-brainer, but I never really thought about it in the way she has or laid it out in an easy to understand way. I look forward to reading more from Melissa because I love her sense of humor!

Rollin’ With My Bloggies!

Rollin’ with my Bloggies is a spot for me to share extra love with my foodie crew, blogs I already know and love and support, or blogs that I have been recently introduced to either through a Blogroll or a kind comment from a foodie friend. Special events on these blogs have a special place right here!

Tea from Two Leaves giveaway!

Amy of uTry it has a bright and lovely blog that serves up a great mixture of recipes, reviews and challenges, with a slight leaning towards sweets! This week she is sharing a review of Two Leaves and a Bud Tea Company products and a great giveaway to receive a sampler pack of their high quality products, so stop on over if you like a good cup of tea in the afternoon when doing your blog visiting and enter to win!

Wild Things Roundup and this month’s challenge ingredient!

I have to tell you I was a bit non-plussed by the choice of ever green tips for this month’s challenge food at the wild things foraged foods challenge. Really? Pine needles? Well, let me tell you, they are simply indescribably delicious! YOU must certainly try this wild foraged ingredient! To get some great inspiration please check out all these great recipes in the Wild Things in March Round Up! I know you will thank me if you do try it. I was like, “Whoa Momma this Rocks!” Yes…Really! You can also check out the next monthly challenge which is Dandelion for April!

How can you be true to yourself and true to food blogging at the same time?

Denise of Creative Kitchen has a bit of a conundrum going on. She is a foodie, but she knows that eating clean by her own guidelines helps her to feel best. She’d love to make all the amazing sweets she sees on other blogs because it is a culinary challenge, but she also wants to be true to herself and treat her body right. Please read her article about balancing a healthy diet and the culinary challenges of blogging and see if you can find a bit of yourself in there and how you would handle the situation. I think it is so important for all food bloggers to reach out for help or information to other food bloggers because NO ONE understands a food blogger like other food bloggers! We don’t cook like others, or plan menu’s weekly like others. We always have to try new recipes and new foods but still nourish ourselves. How do YOU keep it all in balance? It is a very interesting discussion and one I am glad Denise brought up!

Hearth and Soul Hop Highlights

What a wonderful experience hosting the Hearth ‘n Soul Hop continues to be as it focuses on so many lovely aspects of food. I wanted to let you all know of a small change in the hop, as it has grown so large, in great part due to your continuing support. I am sad to say that Heather of girlichef will be stepping down from hosting, but I am certain we will continue to evolve and grow the hop organically as has been the case from the day it’s seed was planted in fertile soil!

If you haven’t read our Hearth and Soul Hop mission statement, you should check it out. I want to thank everyone for their continued participation and all the great recipes I get to put on my must try list! There are so many great ones, but I thought I would share a few that grabbed my attention or yes, made me cry!

Super yummy green chile eggs for dinner!!

Debbi of Debbi does Healthy Dinner is always figuring out ways to tweak recipes so you can still eat delicious food and still feel great about it! I have a family favorite recipe called Texas Fudge which is basically a super cheesy egg and green chile recipe. Well Debbi created this amazing green chile cheddar eggs version that is much lighter and doesn’t contain evaporated milk, which I don’t really like to use. I drooled on my computer screen when I read this recipe and thought I would share it with you because we kind of have a breakfast for dinner theme going this week!

Cinnamon rolls to christen my new oven!

I adore Rachel’s blog Hounds in the Kitchen because she makes healthy, well balanced food fun and her recipes are easy to follow and rather traditional but with her own wonderful flair. As you know, my oven burned up this past weekend and I was looking for a recipe to bake to christen my new oven. When I saw this lovely cinnamon roll recipe I knew I had found my answer! Made with healthy whole wheat and given a long slow second rise, I am so looking forward to these light and fluffy breakfast treats!

What are YOUR Thoughts on Friday?!

I am making a few changes to this Thoughts on Friday feature to make it more user friendly. If you have any news to share in the foodie world, a new recipe carnival, positive information about the food world, a giveaway or a new feature of your own and you send it to me by Thursday afternoon, I will include it in the post, space permitting and give you a link back to your blog. This way, you will be a “roving reporter” for Thoughts on Friday and be given credit as a contributor. I am only one person and I obviously can’t see EVERYTHING that is happening even in our little area of the foodiesphere, so if you want to participate and share news and information, I would love to have your contributions. You can drop me a line or email me directly.

Baby Steps to a Rockin’ Life From the Middle of the Road!

I am putting Baby Steps to a Rockin’ Life on hiatus for the spring and summer so I can have more time with my daughter before she goes to college.  I really enjoyed doing the baby steps and will update the page with all the great contributors who helped me and links to all the different posts so folks can easily find them. I’ll let you all know when they will resume, but most likely in the late fall or winter!

Find New Friends On Friday!

Feed Me! Tweet Me! Follow Me Home Friday!

I am very excited to be partnering with April of the 21st Century Housewife and Hella D of Helladelicious to offer a Foodie focused find a friend blog hop. I have been thinking for a long time about how many people run giveaways or ask on every blog post for visitors to subscribe to their RSS feed or follow them on twitter or facebook etc. so they can gain a bigger audience. I know there are many “follow me” blog hops out there, but none are related to food so the followers who visit your blog for the day don’t stick around! I want to hop on over to new food blogs and have them hop on over to me! I thought it would be a wonderful service to include a true blog hop feature on Thoughts on Friday for people to list their blogs if they want to be followed. The new linky is called Feed Me, Tweet Me, Follow Me Home and it is a true blog hop. This means, that if YOU wish to run the hop on your blog, all you have to do is get the linky code from the bottom of this page and list it on your blog for your readers to join in.

The rules are very simple, because it is a “follow me” linky.

Just enter your link below, and grab my RSS feed, follow my tweets or follow me on networked blogs.

You can use your blog badge as your thumbnail if you wish and you can link up any time during the week.

Visit as many other blogs as you like, to make new friends and follow their blog, grab their tweets and RSS feed if you do not already. If you do grab their info, please leave them a comment so they know they have a new friend. If someone visits you from Feed Me, and grabs your info, please return the favor!

You can share the Feed Me, Tweet Me, Follow Me Home badge if you want, which will be available only on my side bar. Yes, those are my two lovely parrots, Caliente, a Quaker parrot and Scarlet, a female Solomon Island Eclectus! Aren’t they cute?

It is that simple and hopefully this will help us all gain new visitors to our blogs and expand our audiences while giving us new places to explore and making the bloggiesphere a more friendly place! I follow everyone who visits me and leaves a comment, but if I missed you, please leave me a comment and have fun getting to know more wonderful places on the web!

Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend filled with family, fun and most of all great food! Always remember too, if you have any foodie news, giveaways, new blog carnivals or anything you want shared with our lovely little slice of the foodie web, please drop me a note. I adore sharing information with my lovely readers and helping out other foodie love bloggers! Really!

Whew, my heart broke a little bit there, to think that you’d be non-plussed by evergeens for the Wild Things Round Up. But such a relief to know that you loved it as much as Bek and I did. We went crazy coming up with recipes. And truth be told, just today, I sent her one of my spruce creations in the mail. We’re still wild about spruce/fir/pine tips, but this month, we’re also going wild for dandies. And I know, my friend, that you love the lion’s tooth as well!

    Good Afternoon Ladies,
I am sharing Miz Amy Green’s Buckwheat Crepes with you today from her new cookbook, Simply Sugar and Gluten Free. Thanks for hosting and hope you have a wonderful weekend!

Wow! That would so scary to realize your hubby was so close to danger. A friend’s son fell asleep with the drying running. It sparked a fire and he woke up to his basement apartment on fire. He had to crawl out through a window.

But on a happy note, thanks for highlighting my little blog! For years people told me that I should start a blog to explain how I do what I do. So I did and I am having fun!

My oldest starts college in 2012 and he is going for a summer program. Shesh, once upon a time HE asked ME to reach things, or fix the computer, or to figure out how something. Now I ask him, scary stuff, too, though less scary than pizza fires.

Another proud momma joins the ranks:) Congrats! Where is your daughter going next Fall? I hope she will be somewhat close to you (mine is 7-hour drive away – doable, even though not perfect:)
I have to sigh in relief – husbands can be unpredictable, really. But, you got a double oven as a result! Good for you:)

Just wanted to say thanks for the cinnamon roll recipe. I LOVE cinnamon rolls. And this recipe certainly takes the … “roll”
