Food from your hearth, made for your soul every Tuesday on the Hearth and Soul Blog Hop!

Welcome to the Hearth and Soul Hop at a Moderate Life!

It seems like I have been blogging forever but in all actuality it has only been about a year or so and I think back to all the life I have led before this and things you do not know about me and my family. Many of you don’t even know that I live in the New York city area and that my husband and many in our community suffered terrible fear, emotional turmoil, injury and even death on 9/11. Many move on, many memories fade, loads have healed and reformed families along the way, but yesterday when they announced that Osama was dead, it all came crashing back down. The memories are hard to shake, especially for those of us living in the middle of it for all these years.

One thing that I remember from that time is the way everyone came together over food and cooked for families in need, shared family tables with those who needed love and simply fed each other’s souls with friendship, prayer, love and food. I feel that support now strongly and I know that is one of the reasons why the hearth and soul hop resonates with me so strongly.

I know that days like this remind me of what is important in my life. Family comes first, loving them, caring for them and not a little bit, feeding them.

The Hearth and Soul Hop was born of our beliefs that food not only nourishes our bodies, but our souls! To really get clear on what we are talking about, please check out our nifty Hearth and Soul mission statement!

Hi Alex! I had no idea you were in the NYC area! I am in northern NJ, where are you?

Thanks for hosting, Alex. I hope the recent news can help give some sense of closure to the events of 9/11. The images of that day are still burned into my mind, too. I was right in the middle of canning a very large batch of tomato sauce when the news starting coming in. I couldn’t believe it.

Today I shared some comfort food in the form of gluten free banana bread. I hope your readers enjoy it as much as my family did.
